The official opening ceremony of the Sillamäe Truck Parking and Rest Area (Sillamäe TruckStop), built by the EU, the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and Port of Sillamäe take place on Friday, September 2nd, 2011 at Port of Sillamäe.
The idea of building the given parking has been carried out after the detailed analysis of the decision of frontier problems and crossing of border by joint working group on transport questions of the Russian Federation and the European Union. The corresponding official report has been presented to the former commissioner on transport of EU to Jacque Barrot and the Minister of transport of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin. Proceeding followed by the recommendations of the given official report, the European Parliament has allocated ways for the salvation of border crossing problems and transitions between EU and the Russian Federation, for the building of corresponding truck parking and appropriate conditions for drivers of vehicles.
Building of the given Truck parking in port of Sillamäe for cargo motor transport liquidates long queues of trucks on highway, will positively affect safety on roads, will considerably improve conditions of rest and guarantees creation of all necessary conditions for drivers rest, will simultaneously improve a working condition, and life of customs employees. Applied efforts will positively affect on foreign trade conditions between EU and the Russian Federation, and by all means, will bring the big contribution to development of political dialogue of EU and the Russian Federation.
