SILPORT discharged the first car carrier vessel.
On November 1, 2006 the first car carrier vessel was discharged in SILPORT. The vessel „Grande Italia” is 176 m long, its DWT is 13500 t and it belongs to Grimaldi Group.
The shipload of 3196 cars was discharged by ro-ro terminal operator SILSTEVE with an average pace of 200 cars per hour. All the cars were delivered from Europe for transshipment to Russia and are stored in SILSTEVE terminal storage area within Sillamäe Free Zone.
There are 2 ro-ro ramps 30 m wide each in SILPORT that can accept the largest ro-ro vessels in the Baltic Sea. A storage area of 15 000 m2 is available at the quayside for discharging vessels in SILPORT. In addition, SILSTEVE has 42 000 m2 of seaside storage area available for new cars as well as ro-ro equipment at present. Additional storage area of 100 000 m2 is being prepared and will be ready for operation soon.
