Shipping route Sillamäe-Kotka has a new schedule (link).
Shipping route Sillamäe-Kotka operated by Saaremaa Shipping Company subsidiary Narva Line LLC, will switch to the new time schedule from June 1, 2006. New schedule will add daily and shorter trips to the existing ferry connection schedule.
According to Saaremaa Shipping Company’s project manager Karl Kolk, the daily trips last approximately six hours and are suitable both for cargo conveyance and passengers. “The schedule of the shipping route now assembles quite different possibilities; nightly and daily trips with various duration. We hope, that now we can meet the expectations of transporters as well as tourists,” said Kolk.
The departures from Sillamäe are scheduled at 8:00 on working days and at 12:00 on Sundays, these trips last approximately six hours. Departures from Kotka last nine hours and take place at 21:00 every day except Saturday.
On the shipping route operated by Narva Line LLC, the subsidiary of Saaremaa Shipping Company, the ship operation is the passenger and cargo vessel Vironia, built in Norway in 1977. The ship is 158 meters long and 21.6 meters wide. Vironia, formerly known as Star Wind, accommodates altogether 370 passengers and 940 line meters of vehicles. There are 69 berths; the speed of the ship is 18.5 knots. Silja Line was operating that ship through its subsidiary Seawind on the shipping routes Turkku - Stockholm, and Tallinn - Helsinki. Since autumn 2005 the ship belongs to Euro Shipping OÜ.
Saaremaa Shipping company is also servicing another international shipping route between Estonian island Saaremaa and Latvian city Ventspils and four different local routes.
