Test drive of a truck with a length of up to 25.25 m

A test drive of the s.c. extra-long truck with a length of up to 25.25 m was carried out for the first time in Estonia on February 27, 2006 on the route Narva – Port of Sillamäe (SILPORT) - Tapa - Narva.

The truck used for the test drive was Scania R144LBX2LB together with Kögel GN24 trailer with a total length of 24 m and capacity over 150 m3. Truck belongs to the Russian leading road transport company King Cargo.

The goal of the test drive was to prove that trucks with a length of up to 25.25 m are capable of maneuvering on Estonian roads without causing any damage or danger to the surrounding environment or traffic. The test drive was successful: the truck covered a total distance of over 300 km on the territory of Estonia within seven hours including stops. All turns were taken clean and it was proven and recorded that such vehicles are able to maneuver easily on the existing road infrastructure of Estonia.

The test drive was organized and carried out by Estonian logistics and transit promotion agency Transestonia in cooperation with Estonian Ministry of Economics and Communications, Estonian Road Administration, Estonian Police, Estonian Border Guard, Estonian Logistics Association, Estonian Ports Union, Silport and RRK as well as local municipalities. Representatives of all municipalities monitored the extra-long truck trial.
