Sillamäe – Kotka line has been launched
Saaremaa Shipping Company (Saaremaa Laevakompanii – SLK) has launched a new shipping line in the Gulf of Finland connecting ports of Sillamäe, Estonia and Kotka, Finland.
The ro-ro vessel „Vironia” operated by Narva Line Ltd., a subsidiary company of SLK, is ro-pax ship built in 1977 in Norway. She is 158 m long and 21.6 m wide. „Vironia” can take on board 370 passengers (incl. 56 cabins) and 940 line meters of vehicles, and can reach the speed of 18.5 knots.
Formerly named „Star Wind”, the vessel was operated by Silja Line on the connections between Turku, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. In autumn 2005 the vessel was purchased from Silja Line by Euro Shipping Ltd.
According to the initial sailing schedule the ship will be calling each port 6 (six) times per week. The detailed schedule as well as fares for vehicles and passengers are being worked out and will be announced in the nearest future.
