SILPORT is open for navigation 365 days a year.
Ice conditions in the port are favourable for all-year-round navigation and no ice breaking is needed in an average winter.
Depth at the port of Sillamäe reaches from 13 meters (BK77) at the berth of liquid chemicals to 15.5 meters (BK77) at berths of container and general cargo and 16.5 meters (BK77) at berths intended for processing petroleum products. This allows the port at any time take the largest tankers and bulk carriers that are able to pass through the Danish straits.
The sea channel in SILPORT aquatory is a semi-restricted (dredged in shallow water) single-line channel classified as Group A Channel – supplied with day and night navigational aids as well as providing guaranteed depths of 16,5 m (BK77). Its axis is the same for all incoming vessels.
SILPORT aquatory is well-sheltered from winds from W, NW and N by 1 km long break-water in the western part of the port. The port has a natural shelter from all the other winds by the mainland.
According to the Maritime Law of the Estonian Republic pilotage is required for any vessel entering the aquatory of SILPORT as well as any port in Estonia.
